Fire Box 2111

At 0312 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with mutual aid units from Quarryville (57) and Rising Sun, MD (8), was alerted to the 900 block of Street Road in Lower Oxford Township for the reported house on fire. The incident was quickly updated to "possible entrapment" by the Chester County Fire Radio based on the caller's information.

Chief 21 (Prettyman) responded and was able to see the fire from several miles out. Considering the visible fire and the information received from the caller, the Chief promptly requested the "Working Fire Dispatch", starting additional resources Quarryville, Rising Sun, Cochranville (27), and Medic 94 (SCCEMS). Chief 21 marked on-scene to find fire thru the roof of single family, 2-story dwelling. After quickly performing a 360 degree scene size up to develop a operational plan, Chief Prettyman was able to make contact with the dwellings occupants. The Chief was able to update the initial on scene report to include that all occupants were reported out of the dwelling and that the bulk of the fire was within the attic of the dwelling and established the "Street Road Command".

Engine 21-1 (Lt. Greene) arrived, laid a 400' supply line up the private drive and deployed an attack line extinguishing the visible fire on the exterior of the dwelling. The Engine crew then made entry and proceeded to the 2nd floor, where they began pulling the ceiling to access the attic and begin their fire attack.

Ladder 21 (Capt. Kelley) arrived, pulling up the driveway. The Truck crew made entrance into the dwelling and performed a primary search, while the Truck Chauffeur (Past Chief Fowler) placed the aerial in service. The Truck crew then began assisting the Engine crew with fire suppression.

Engine 21-2 (FF Nelson) and Tanker 21 (FF Weber) arrived and established the water supply on Street Road.

Engine 21-4 (FF Groseclose) established a fill site for the rural water supply on Forge Road.

Additional arriving units assisted with throwing ground ladders, ventilation, a secondary search, overhaul and salvage.

Rescue 27 established the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) assignment.

EMS Crews from Oxford, Medic 94, and and Wakefield (88) provided for Firefighter Rehab and medical care.

Deputy 21 (Obenchain) assumed the Operations Role for the incident.

During the incident Engine 23-1 (Avondale) and Tanker 22 (West Grove) covered our First Due from the Midtown Station.

The fire was placed under control at 0449 hours with the final 21 units clearing the incident at 0645 hours. Member worked until approximately 1030 hours to return equipment and apparatus to service.
