On Monday afternoon at 1255 hours, the Union Fire Company and Mutual aid units were alerted to the 400 block of Jackson School Road in Lower Oxford for a reported house on fire.
Chief (Prettyman) marked up after dispatch, and received supplemental information from the 911 center advising of a basement fire with the occupants evacuated. Chief 21 arrived to confirm normal exterior conditions on a 2 story farmhouse with a green line in-service, and a report of smoke throughout. Chief 21 transmitted the Working Fire Dispatch adding Medic 94-1 and Lancaster Truck 57 to the incident.
Engine 21-1 arrived and laid a 5" supply line down the private drive from the street. The Engine 21-1 crew ran a 200' 1.75" attack line into service at the basement level and discovered a heavy smoke condition inside. The crew located a small fire extinguished by a burnt through overhead pvc water line, and overhauled the immediately fire area.
Engine 27-2 arrived and deployed a second attack line into first floor, checking for extension and completing a primary search.
Ladder 21 positioned on side Bravo, deploying ladders to the exterior. Tanker 21/Engine 21-2 staged on Jackson School Road in case additional water was needed.
The fire was quickly confirmed to be held in-check with negative extension. Command scaled the incident back to units on the scene who ventilated the structure. Members from Union, Cochranville and West Grove racked up the two hand-lines and 200 ft of supply line before being released.
Chief 21 held the "Jackson School Command" for this incident.
