At 0849 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for a reported Truck Fire on the southbound Route 1 bypass south of Route 272 in West Nottingham Township.

Assistant 21 (Meadowcroft) marked enroute and was advised by the Chester County Fireboard that calls were being received for a trailer loaded with hay on fire.

Engine 21-2 (EMS Manager Sawyers) responded with a crew of four and Engine 21-4 (FF Mark Groseclose) responded with a crew of 2.

Assistant 21 arrived with a working fire on the trailer involving multiple 800 pound hay bales. He corrected the location to the southbound Route 1 off ramp to Route 272 and established the Command.

Engine 21-4 arrived and began attacking the fire with an 1.75" handline.

Engine 21-2 arrived with the Crew assisting the crew from Engine 21-4.

Tanker 21 arrived and supplied Engine 21-2.

As crews worked to extinguish the fire and overhaul the load on the trailer, Command request an Engine and Fire Police from the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, Maryland (Station 8) and a front end loader from PENNDOT to assist with cleaning up the scene.

The crews for several hours applying water to the hay bales as they were moved to the field by the loader and spread apart.

The final units were clear of the incident at 1149 hours.
