January 27, 2017

At 2321 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted to assist the Robert Fulton Fire Company (89) on a reported barn on fire in the 200 block of Scott Road in Little Britain Township, Lancaster County.

Chief 89 arrived with smoke showing from from a 50'x500' chicken house. He established the Command and instructed Engine 89-1 to lay out approximately 500' of supply in the driveway. The Crew stretched a hand line to the interior where they found a fire in the shavings on the floor.

Ladder 21 (Lt. Greene) arrived and pulled into the scene. The Crew went to the interior with ground ladders and tools to assist with checking for fire extension and overhaul, while the Truck Chauffeur set up the aerial to the roof.

Tanker 21 (Deputy Chief Obenchain) and Engine 21-2 (Captain Kelley) established the Nurse Tanker operation in the driveway to supply water to the scene. Deputy 21 was assigned as the Water Supply Officer.

Additional arriving crews assisted for close to two hours with extinguishing the fire that was discovered in the walls and ceiling and overhaul.

Unfortunately, thousands of turkey chicks died from the smoke conditions.

Tanker 22 (West Grove) transferred to Station 21 to cover the area during the incident.

The final Oxford units were clear of the incident at 0146 hours.
