Rescue Box 2100

At 0958 hours, while the Career day shift crews were taking advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures and washing the Ambulances outside the rear of the firehouse, a horrendous explosion was heard in the area. After a quick recovery, the EMS staff noticed a two vehicle collision in the 400 block of Market Street. The crew notified the Chester County Fire Radio and responded. This alerted the Union Fire Company No. 1 and Medic 94 (SCCEMS).

Upon arrival, it was determined that one vehicle had struck three utility poles along Market Street and a parked car in a driveway just south of Fourth Street. After a scene size-up, a single occupant was found still in the striking vehicle and extrication would be needed.

Deputy 21 (Obenchain) arrived and established the "Market Street Command".

Rescue 21 (LT. Greene) arrived and nosed into the scene. The crew split with half stabilizing the vehicle and the other half setting up the hydraulic rescue tools. The crew worked to open the driver's door.

Engine 21-1 (Safety Officer Booth) and Engine 21-4 (FF Woolson) arrived and assisted at the scene with hazard control.

Crews then assisted EMS with removing the Patient from the vehicle.

The Patient was then transported to the Jennersville Regional Hospital by Ambulance 21-1 and Medic 94-1.

The final units were clear of the scene at 1106 hours.

Market Street remained closed for the remained of the day and into Christmas Eve while PECO crews replaced the damaged utility poles.
