This weekend, 6 of our Junior Members completed the Junior Firefighter Training at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus.

Skills covered included hose packing, hose rolling, handline and nozzle work, drafting, knot tying, hydrant set up and more.

The Junior Member program of the Union Fire Company No. 1 is open to youth ages 14 through 17. 14 and 15 year olds may join if they are enrolled in the Octorara Homeland Security and Protective Services Academy, while others may join the company at age 16.

Those who have reached the age of 16 may respond to calls, as long as they maintain passing grades in school. This is a great way for members to prepare for and learn things about the fire service before completing further training to be an interior firefighter after age 18.

Those interested in joining our department may do so by submitting an application on the "Become a Member" option under the "About Us" tab of www.oxfordfire.com.

We congratulate each of these young people on completing their first of many courses at the County level and look forward to their service to the community in the coming years.
