Box 2100

At 1854 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with surrounding mutual aid companies, were alerted to the 300 block of Penn Avenue in Oxford Borough for a reported house on fire. Chester County Fire Radio advised responding units of a reported fire in the kitchen of the home.

Engine 21-1 (Captain Kane) and Deputy 21 (Meadowcroft) arrived to a 2 story house with smoke showing.

Engine 21-1 crew members deployed a 200', 1.75" handline through the front door and began a aggressive fire attack in the kitchen area.

Ladder 21 (Chief Engineer Obenchain) arrived and set the aerial ladder to the roof. Crew members completed a primary search of the structure, as well as set portable ladders on all sides of the structure.

Engine 21-2 (Past Chief Fowler), and Cecil County Truck 8 arrived and assisted crews inside. Truck 8 set its aerial main to the roof on the Charlie/Rear side of the structure.
Lancaster County Rescue 57 operated as the rapid intervention team for the incident.
West Grove units were on scene for a short period of time before responding to a call in their own district.

Quick extinguishment of the fire allowed command to release most mutual aid units from the fireground in a timely manner. A portion of mutual aid units responded to a separate incident in Southern Chester County.

Station 21 operated at this incident for just over 2 hours.

Deputy Chief Meadowcroft held the "Penn Avenue Command"

Lancaster County Station 57 (Quarryville) handled a Motor Vehicle Collison with Union EMS in Oxford Borough while we operated at this incident. Rescue 57 covered the 21 district until the remainder of units cleared Penn Ave.
