On Wednesday, September 4th, shortly after noon, The Union Fire Company No. 1 along with mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 100 block of University Road in Upper Oxford Township for a reported house on fire.

A single caller to the Chester County 911 center reported flames coming from the roof of a single family home. A large column of smoke could be seen across Southern Chester County, Prompting the Working Fire Dispatch and Tanker Task Force to be requested.

Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police arrived on-scene first, reporting fire showing throughout the home.

Engine 21-1 (Kern) arrived as the First Due Engine, crew members placed two handlines into service to begin attacking the fire. At this point, the decision was made to utilize a "Defensive" fire attack method, due to advanced fire conditions throughout the house.

A 5" supply hose was deployed from the intersection of Route 896 and University road, to the fire scene, with portable water tanks being set up at that intersection.

Ladder 22 (West Grove) arrived as the First Due Truck. It's crew assisted 21 crews while the operator set up the aerial ladder device.
Ladder 21 (Past Chief Prettyman) arrived and set up to utilize the aerial master stream device on the 2nd floor of the house.

Engine 22-1 (West Grove) was sent to set up a fill site for tankers at the hydrant on Janes Lane in Lower Oxford.

Additional units from 4 counties and 3 states operated at this incident for just under 4 hours, Utilizing approximately 50,000 gallons of water. No injuries were reported.

Assistant 22 (West Grove) held the University Road Command for this incident, and was assisted by numerous Chief Officers from across Southern Chester County.

Thank you to Honey Brook Fire Company's Engine 33-5 for standing by to cover our district while we operated at this incident.
