Union Fire Company No. 1 of Oxford recently completed two intensive vehicle rescue drills to reinforce critical skills for emergency response. Organized with Elder Technical Rescue, LLC, the training sessions were attended by approximately 24 members each and were instrumental in preparing firefighters for complex rescue scenarios.

The first drill, held at Chews Towing in Oxford, focused on stabilizing and rescuing victims from passenger vehicles in various positions, including upright, on their side, and overturned. Under the expert guidance of Elder Technical Rescue, our team practiced essential stabilization and extrication techniques, critical for managing real-life situations.

The second drill, hosted by Null’s Towing in Cochranville, provided advanced training in heavy vehicle rescue. The scenario involved a school bus that had been struck from behind by a passenger vehicle, trapping the car’s driver. Firefighters first stabilized the bus and then used Null’s heavy rotator to lift the bus off the car, allowing safe removal of the trapped individual. This experience reinforced our reliance on specialized partners when facing heavy vehicle rescues. In such scenarios, Union Fire Company No. 1 works closely with mutual aid fire departments and private towing companies, such as Null’s, which provide crucial rotator capabilities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Elder Technical Rescue, Chews Towing, and Null’s Towing for their continued support and partnership. These collaborative efforts ensure that Union Fire Company No. 1 is fully equipped to serve and protect our community, no matter the complexity of the rescue situation.
