This morning, the officers and members of the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with family and friends, honored the life and legacy of Past Assistant Chief David R. Vining.
Assistant Chief Vining passed away on October 7th at the age of 84. He served the community as a volunteer firefighter for over 61 years, always helping with countless company functions such as bingo nights and the carnival. He also received multiple awards for his dedication to the company, including the president's award and the firefighter of the year award.
Today, his son, Past Chief Mark Vining, drove him on his final ride on Third Street in Engine 21-4 to his final resting place in the Oxford Cemetery.
Dave’s leadership and dedication to the firehouse will be carried on by many.
Please keep the Vining family in your thoughts during this time.
Thank you to the West Grove Fire Company and the Oxford Borough Police Department for assisting with today's services.
There are no words that can truly express the depth of our gratitude and emotion following the beautiful tribute given to our father, David R. Vining.
To the Oxford Fire Company, Oxford Ambulance Division, West Grove Fire Company, and the Oxford Police Department — thank you for standing in honor of a man who stood proudly among you for more than six decades. Seeing the apparatus, the uniforms, and the solemn respect of the brotherhood and sisterhood of emergency services was a powerful reminder of the unbreakable bond shared by those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
Your presence, your salute, and your compassion spoke louder than words ever could. It was a true reflection of the love and respect that exists within this community and among those who wear the badge, ride the rigs, and answer the call — day or night.
To Ruffenach Funeral Home, Phillips Florist, and every member of the Oxford community who showed kindness, offered a comforting word, sent flowers, or simply stood along the route in quiet respect — please know that your support carried us through one of the hardest days of our lives.
Our father loved this town. He loved its people. And in the end, Oxford showed that same love right back to him in the most extraordinary way.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for honoring his life, his service, and the spirit of community he cherished so deeply.
With love and gratitude, The Vining Family
